Pro opposition newspaper Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman arrested.


Mahmudur Rahman, the editor of the Bengali-language Amar Desh newspaper was arrested during a raid on his office in Dhaka.

He faces charges including sedition and unlawful publication of a conversation that led to the resignation of the head judge of a war crimes tribunal.
The government has also accused Amar Desh of inciting violence.
But Islamist groups staged a street protest on Thursday against his arrest, describing him a "courageous and true soldier of Islam".
Mr Rahman has been remanded in custody by a Dhaka court for 13 days to allow police more time to interrogate him.

Daily Amar Desh Editor Sued in Bangladesh.


The Daily Star reports that Mahmudur Rahman, acting editor of Bangla daily Amar Desh, has been sued for instigating militancy and fanaticism and spreading false information to create anarchy across the country.
Confirming The Daily Star about filing of the case, Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge (investigation) at Shahbagh Police Station, said Sub-Inspector Badrul Islam filed the charges.
Amar Desh has been publishing reports and hate materials criticizing the Shahbagh movement, which entered its 19th day on Saturday, demanding capital punishment to the war criminals.
The case was filed a day after Jamaat and its student body Islami Chhatra Shibir attacked law enforcers and journalists, burned the national flag and vandalized Shaheed Minars to counter the mass demand for capital punishment to 1971 war criminals.
Demonstrators at Shahbagh’s Projonmo Chattar, who returned to the protest venue immediately after the start of Friday’s mayhem, demanded arrest of Mahmudur Rahman in 24 hours.

At least 20 Journalist injured by Police.


By Anwar Hossain; The marauding activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir and some other Islamist parties clashed with police and pro-ruling party people across the country before and after Juma prayers yesterday, resulting in a large number of casualties and arrests.

The Islamists vandalised and torched Gonojagoron Mancha and Shaheed Minar as they protested the Shahbagh movement, which is to demand death penalty for war criminals.
Apart from deaths, scores of people, including police and journalists, were injured in the violence, report published in daily newspapers in Bangladesh.
Chief photo journalist of the Daily Amardesh, Mir Ahmed Miru was bullet injured by police, while he was performing his duty in the area of Baitul Mokarrom Mosque. His colleague took him to hospital and then he went through a surgery.

Dear Readers

This is an open letter! Why it is an open letter? I don't know the basic reason of why! But what i felt is that - i will write this article as an open letter format. So that every body knows about the situation and feels to do something for the new threats that have emerged in Bangladesh.

Before describing the situation i would like to focus on some events that took place in this year 2010.

Dated on 01 June
Government closed the national daily Amar Desh and arrested the editor Mahmudur Rahman. He was arrested during a pre-dawn raid on the newspaper office despite the protests of the journalists present. Rahman has been charged with fraud and violence against police officers. The newspaper’s printing press has also been closed. It is notable police couldn't show any warrant during his arrest. He was taken into remand for 12 days. Had been tortured brutally.
